SYDNEY ASSEMBLAGES
Anna Löwenhaupt Tsing, in her book The Mushroom at the End of the World, calls us to pay attention - in what she coins as Arts of Noticing. The actual act of noticing is difficult, especially in a busy city like Sydney. 'Sydney Assemblages' thus took me to areas I found overstimulating or crowded, where I attempted to walk, sit and notice. Tsing also discusses what she calls Assemblages, referring to ‘open-ended gatherings’ - human and non-human. I collected materials I noticed in these areas and collaged them to create “Assemblages” of each location. The postcards - now turned into a zine - are thus homages to Sydney’s busy areas.
